Baby weight loss?

So, at the beginning of this pregnancy, I weighed the most I've weighed in my life, despite having tried to lose weight for over a year before getting pregnant. I would gain and lose the same 10 pounds, over and over again. I'm not really sure why, exactly. Anyway, I was at least exercising 3x per week for almost a year before getting pregnant, so I was stronger and healthier. At least that part of my plan worked well. So now, going into week 12, I have lost between 16 and 17 pounds. If I was trying to lose weight and being really successful on a sensible program, I could lose between 12 and 24 pounds in that amount of time, so it isn't really scary and I am keeping food down. It is just weird that I am not trying to do anything and finally losing weight. I'm not going to knock it. Incidentally, my midwife says it is fine, as long as I am eating and keeping food down. Apparently, it is just what my body needs to do.

One friend suggested that it might be all the sleep I'm getting (9-10 hours a night). Apparently your body processes and stores food totally differently if you are not sleep deprived and part of that is using up fat. She knew someone who changed nothing else about her life, but got 9 hours of sleep and lost 40 pounds. I'd be interested to see the research, but it kinda makes sense.

As long as the baby is doing fine, I'm happy. So far it looks like everything is normal. Yay!
